One hundred years ago, Clarissa Dalloway had a dinner party, and, somehow, we are still talking about it today. Woolf's novel, from its unflinching portayal of mental health issues, to the wrenching depiction of post-WWI trauma, to its realistically messy presentation of inner life, still resonates today, as its peculiar popular culture afterlife attests. This talk by LSC-Kingwood English professor Ashley Brinkman will explore why Mrs. Dalloway, a landmark of feminist modernism and its author, remain relevant after a century.
